Several events take place at Boldshaves during the year, from National Garden Scheme open days, to spring walks in the woods to hear the nightingales sing. Boldshaves also hosts the annual Wealden Literary Festival which takes place each summer.

Nightingale Walks

We manage sections of our semi-ancient woodland for ground-nesting birds, and in Spring offer guided walks to hear the nightingales in full voice. There is no need to pre-book. If you are in front of the main house at 6pm on any day during the weeks of 26 April or 3 or 10 May, you are welcome to join the tour. Cost £5.

National Garden Scheme

The gardens will open for the NGS (and Kent Minds) on Sunday 4 July 2021, 2-6pm. Entrance £7.50.

The Wealden Literary Festival

We host the Festival during the last weekend in June each year: 26/27 June 2021. See for further details.

“It is a thrill to see Wealden Literary Festival taking root and flourishing. With its emphasis on the natural world, its commitment to children and to community, and its vision of getting people outdoors and hands-on with nature, as well as reading and talking about it, it strikes me as a hugely hopeful and valuable new event. Long may it grow!”

Robert Macfarlane, author of The Old Ways and The Lost Words

“The Wealden Festival is a beautiful experience: convivial, generous, and profoundly hospitable to ideas and words and all who love them.”

Jay Griffiths, author of Kith and Wild
